СОДЕЙКА Гинтарас

Gintaras Sodeika

Composer. Born on March 27, 1961, in Vilnius. In 1986, graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music. Since 1990, has cooperated with director Oskaras Kor?unovas. Writes symphonic and chamber music as well as music for theatre and film. Creates site-specific ‘sound design’ for visual arts. At the beginning of his creative work Sodeika’s music was rather unconventional – it consisted of happenings, sound installations, and instrumental theatre compositions. His concert music is also distinguished by a certain theatricality and references to popular culture. The composer himself describes his work as “academic techno” – a strange combination of traditional music values ??and new technologies. Sodeika’s music often combines minimalism and jazz elements; it can be characterized by a peculiar humour and self-irony. The major body of his work has been created in cooperation with Oskaras Kor?unovas: “There to Be Here” by Daniil Kharms, “PS File OK” by Sigitas Parulskis, “Roberto Zucco” by Bernard-Marie Kolt?s, “Shopping and Fucking” by Mark Ravenhill, “Fireface” by Marius von Mayenburg, “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov, and “Oedipus the King” by Sophocles.
