Peeping Tom (Belgium) in coproduction with Residenztheater (Germany)
Belgian company “Peeping Tom” was founded in 2000 by two former artists of Alan Platel – Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier – and today is one of the most famous dance companies in the world. Its productions took part in the most significant theater festivals around the world and have won numerous awards, most recently Lawrence Olivier prize, considered to be the main award in the British theater.
Company’s cooperation with Munich Residenztheater is the first precedent of the Peeping Tom’s collaboration with a dramatic troupe.
Peeping Tom has its own niche in the contemporary dance, the so called “Theater of the body”. The company has created a spectacular visual style, which combines dance, drama and vocal skills in the big paintings and small absurd stories.
“The Land” performance carries the audience into a world in which “I” of the characters is separated and distanced from the familiar. This is a conversation about the world inside another world, inside another, ever changing, picture. The characters find themselves in their familiar space, but the proportions are paradoxically violated. It gives impetus to the beginning of the game with perception, contradictions, closeness and distance. Personal stories are intertwined in a single mass, exposing various forms of human fears and aspirations. The boundary between reality and fiction disappears and the fragile cruel tale, releasing the animalistic origin, is born.
